Aims of the PIN project

1. To provide practical support for grandparents and primary caregivers, responsible for children orphaned through AIDS, thus ensuring a secure and familiar environment for the children and family continuity for the grandparents.

2. To provide an income for the grandmothers and primary caregivers by encouraging participation in income-generating activities, especially the traditional skill of bead work, mainly AIDS pins.

3. To ensure the children and youth are aware of the complexities of the HIV/AIDS situation by providing life-skills training.

4. To encourage and guide supportive peer activities.

5. To support the formal education of the children and provide opportunities for vocational guidance and training.

6. To raise international awareness of the social and economic needs of these children by encouraging supportive and informed global links.

The Project is based in two townships in Zululand, S. Africa and supports nearly 300 children and their carers. The pins are sold all over the world and currently have reached 16,000+.

The PIN (People In Need) Project is a not for profit organisation registered in South Africa, number 012-273
